The Matteo Viglietta Award, organized in collaboration with Artissima, is an acquisition prize to honor Matteo Viglietta. He has had a strong connection with the art fair since its early days, actively supporting it by purchasing works for his collection and participating in collateral events, where the Collection’s exhibition space is one of the most visited spots during Turin Art Week.

This award was created and supported by the Collezione La Gaia, represented by Matteo's four children, who actively embraced his legacy, viewing it primarily as a tribute to their father, an insatiable and relentless collector. His passion was always focused on discovering and rediscovering radical practices, which sometimes did not receive adequate public or market recognition. The prize is therefore not limited to emerging young artists but is open to artists of all ages. Each year, a jury will select the winner by choosing a work from an artist participating in the Turin fair.

The acquisition also formalizes a practice started and strengthened by Matteo Viglietta, who, each year, chose a work related to the materials and tools sold by his company—Viglietta Matteo SpA, a leading importer and wholesaler of hardware and DIY supplies—to feature on the cover of the “Cata-listino,” a 1,200-page book filled with articles about the hardware and DIY world. The acquired artwork, aside from becoming part of Collezione La Gaia, can be used for this purpose, creating a link to one of the hundreds of products or materials sold by the company, all while paying tribute to Matteo Viglietta's ironic and irreverent spirit—that of a man with an open mind and a contagious smile.
